Website relaunch and expansion of the system landscape

Carlsen Verlag

The new website of the Hamburger publishing house Carlsen shines with a fresh, minimalistic look and boasts a number of new features and functions. A book shop sells physical and digital products like apps and ebooks from a wide range of publishers. The technical backbone of the shop is provided by the merchant system Magento which connects directly to shipping and warehousing systems.

Comprehensive product search and display and an intelligent recommendation system on the website give users the shortest possible path to finding the right article and suggests related products that could interest them. This lays a solid foundation for an efficient cross-selling strategy.

Behind the scenes, the system architecture is company-wide and assures that all product offers are distributed throughout all connected websites such as product microsites. The integration of the complete ecosystem of websites, microsites and CMS as well as the publisher software Pondus, the asset management system Elvis, a connected user database, a comprehensive marketing database and a newsletter system is done with best usability as the highest priority. An expansion of the portal for mobile devices is being planned.

Through the implementation of a message broker based on RabbitMQ, an efficient messaging concept can be assured between largely heterogeneous systems. Product information with accompanying assets (images, video, etc.) is collated using an extensive document management system and intelligent product teasers are dynamically generated using complex search queries.

With an infrastructure that is as complex as it is dynamic, Carlsen and SIRUP are raising the bar for publishing IT in Germany.
